A versitile all-rounder (a bit like it's owner)
Reviewed By Martin, 10 Jan 2014

I was looking for a pack that I could use for a variety of things, most days of the week. In the last three months this has been my most used pack.

The Surge II is plenty large enough to carry laptop, folders, books and lunch, with room to spare for a raincoat or gym kit. There are more pockets than I care to count and I find that it is so well organised I work out of it at my desk (so it's a desk tidy as well!).

I also use the pack for commuting to work, picking up shopping on the way home, and for weekends away.

A great day-to-day pack that helps you keep organised. It compresses down well when just carrying a few bits (so doesn't look very big) but opens up to swallow loads of stuff. It is built to last, and I'd have no problem taking it traveling with me in the future. I expect it will last me a lifetime.

I thought that it was expensive for a "laptop bag", but with the Cotswold price-match, the quality, and versatility of the pack (college, work, travel, gym, etc) it's actually great value. I haven't used it on the hill but think it would be fine as a day pack whilst on holiday.

I also looked at the Borealis pack but decided that the Surges' extra pockets, better laptop compartment and extra volume when needed (but no larger when compressed) was worth paying a bit more for. Very pleased with my purchase.

Tip: I keep a small emergency raincoat in the outer expanding pocket. I think this is for power cables and such but it keeps the jacket handy at all times and outside of the main pack when wet.
