Slightly Dissapointing
Reviewed By Charlotte, 19 Aug 2014

Just returned from 4 weeks of mountaineering and ice trekking in Norway. Bought these at the cheaper end of the scale. Easy to put on and fitted well round B2 boot and under crampons. Really keeps water out through multiple river and bog crossings. However they are not very breathable - after a days trekking, lots of condensation build up and one zip pull failed after 2 weeks of use.

A tough pair of gaiters at a decent price
Reviewed By Neil, 26 Apr 2014

I decided to get these gaiters as they had more reinforced material on the inside of the legs. Due to the way I walk I am hard on gaiters as my feet appear to rub the holes in the gaiters.
I like the fact that you can wash these gaiters, but was a little disappointed that the large size did not increase the length of the gaiter. I would prefer a pair to come up over the top of my calves.
A good product which I hope will last longer than my last pair from a different company!

Brilliant product!!

I have been using these gaiters for years, probably on my second or third pair now, just recommended these to a friend and would really recommend these to anyone going walking / treking, they perform really well, and at the same time excellent value for money.
Love the new design changes,

Worst product ever
Reviewed By Rob, 03 Apr 2013

I bought a pair of these to replace some Black Diamond gaitors I had had for many years. They were bought for a trip to the Cairngorms (so the name seemed appropriate)with my teenage son during the winter. We had been out for under 2 hours when the first strap buckle broke and shortly after the second buckle broke. Despite some field repairs it was clear I was taking a risk with my feet in deep snow so we turned around and headed home. I called Trekmates customer care to be told it was a known design fault and they could send me some replacements - exactly the same with the same design fault i.e. in cold conditions the buckles become brittle and break. Frankly I think it is atrocious that a company can make and market a piece of mountain equipment that clearly isn't fit for purpose. I'd never heard of Trekmates before and I will never buy any of their equipment ever again. I now have a pair of Berghaus Yeti gaiters which have done me proud on several trips. Pay the extra money for a reputable brand (Berghaus, Black Diamond etc) and avoid these cowboys if you can.

Poor Quality?
Reviewed By philip, 19 Sep 2012

I have previously left a review in November last year re the excellent customer service I recieved from Trekmates re a faulty pair of these gaiters which started to fall apart after moderate use, Trekmates replaced them with a brand new pair which I thought was great customer service.
However again after only moderate use and after less than a year my replacement gaiters are also starting to show faults, I have not worn them in the summer and have just started using them again. The elastic band at the top of the gaiter came loose meaning I had to stitch it back together and now the press stud fasteners at the top of the gaiters has become detached on both and is no longer useable.
The gaiters themselves work well and have not allowed any water into the top of my boots and do protect your lower legs from mud water etc but there build quality is suspect and for the price I will be investing in a set of Rab or Berghaus gaiters which are of a similar cost.

well designed product

Quality Feel and Comfortable
Reviewed By Martin, 22 Mar 2012

Tested these well on a recent hike in Snowdonia, it was a horrendous day with pretty much continual rain and strong wind. The gaiters did their job really well, they feel very durable, are comfortable and easily adjusted too. Would recommend

Waterproof and Durable
Reviewed By Vincent, 05 Dec 2011

I purchased these gaiters along with a pair of Berghaus boots. I must admit I was sceptical at first as I was not so sure they would stay tight on the calf. It turned out they fit quite snug and do not drtop down at all. I spent three days walking and climbing through rugged terrain that was mostly wet and the Cairngorm Gaiter kept my lower legs dry as extra protection over my boots. Very easy to walk in and easy to clean.

Good Customer Service
Reviewed By philip, 17 Nov 2011

I first bought a set of these 18 months ago, recently I noticed that the inside lining had split and torn, I complained direct to Trekmates who after examining my product have replaced the gaiters with a new set apologising for the faulty pair. The new gaiters have been redesigned from the originals I had and seem much more sturdy on the inside, time will tell but I rate their customer service as excellent.
