Quick Dry Technology
Quick Dry Products
Stay comfortable for longer with fabrics that wick away moisture. Cooler to wear and quicker to dry.
When we push ourselves to the limit our heart rate increases to rush oxygen to our muscles. Our body temperature then rises and our skin begins to sweat. The evaporation of sweat requires heat energy, which in turn cools the skin down and controls our core temperature.
A good quick drying and wicking material will move the excess moisture away from your skin and towards the surface of the material (absorbing or drawing off water by capillary action). Once it comes into contact with the outside air or the next layer of clothing it can be evaporated to help control your body temperature.
- Keeps you cool and comfortable
- Dry whilst wearing
- Dry and ready for the next day
- Can be odour resistant
How It Works
The speed at which each material will dry varies on the type of fabric.
- Natural
- Synthetic
- Blended
Natural
Natural quick drying materials are often made from merino wool. The super thin fibres make it effective at drawing moisture away from the skin, with a scaly exterior cuticle layer, and a water resistant waxy film coating. Their anti-microbial properties prevent the build-up of odour and won’t scratch or irritate the skin like normal wool can.

Synthetic
Synthetic fibres are inherently good at moving water as they are non-absorbent. Moisture travels along the fibres and escapes through tiny holes between the yarns, evaporating into the air. These fibres are constructed with the thinner yarns resting closer to the skin and the thicker yarns on the outside, helping the movement of moisture.

Blended
Blended quick drying materials are made from a mix of synthetic and natural fibres, such as merino wool, polyester and bamboo. Yarns are woven together in order to harness the benefits of each material. Synthetic fibres are exceptionally quick drying, lightweight and durable, whilst natural fibres help keep odours at bay and perform better in colder conditions.

Care Information
With appropriate care, you can prolong the life of your quick drying clothing. Just bear in mind the following:
- Wash after each use and dry naturally
- Ideally hand wash (use the recommended cleaner as concentrated detergents will strip protective coating and fabric softeners can reduce its drying ability)
- Contact Cotswold Outdoor staff or the manufacturer for specific advice
Non Quick Drying Clothing
- Absorbs moisture
- Can be irritating and uncomfortable to the skin
- can retain bacteria and cling to odour
- Takes longer to dry
