Protection in the wettest of weather

Whether your environment is urban or alpine, you can rely on The North Face Men’s Resolve Jacket for protection in the wettest of weather.

Featuring a rugged nylon ripstop exterior that shrugs off the odd bump or scrape and HyVent technology for dependable waterproof fortification, the Resolve is also seam-sealed so that no rain or snow can penetrate. A hem cinch cord and adjustable hood further cocoon you in the mesh-lined interior, brushed around the collar for comfort. It's breathable too, allowing for excellent moisture transport away from your body, and eminently stowable, rolling down small to be stashed in its own pocket and tossed into your backpack whenever there’s rain in the air.

This coat is perfect for both my day to day needs and also as an outdoor coat in the summer months. It's not going to keep you completely dry from a deluge, but at this price I wouldn't expect it to. I got mine for £55 in the sale which is a bargain.

If you're buying it as a winter coat make sure you only are using it on short walks or mild days as it's not great for keeping warm. Much better as a summer jacket or if like me you just want something to put onto nip to a shop a couple of minutes away.

Good lightweight waterproof jacket
Reviewed By Colin, 03 Nov 2012

This jacket has all the features you've come to expect from North Face - zipped pockets, mesh lining, rip stop breathable fabric, fold away hood. Overall it's great - except:
The hood is a really bad design. Yes, it's adjustable but only on the sides (and that's fiddly), but no matter how much I try adjusting it, I cannot stop it falling over my eyes which means I can't see where I'm going. It really does need some adjustment at the back.

Really Disappointed
Reviewed By Mike, 27 Sep 2012

Bought a Resolve jacket from Cotswold about eight weeks ago. Worn it twice during particularly rainy weather and it let me down both times. First was a very intense thunder storm lasting about one hour. Second was prolonged rain for about three hours. Both times my underlayers were soaking wet. Also not sure about the breathability - moisture seems to be retained more than I expected.

Good practical jacket

My second one of these, last one was pinched after long service much to my annoyance. The jacket lives folded in my work backpack with computer most of the time and moves to the rucksack when I go hill walking, it is very light and extremely waterproof. it's an ideal wind cheater/ waterproof when on exposed hill sides working well with layers also offering excellent rain protection for the everyday commute.

The rain drops just fall off

Good Lightweight Jacket

Good light weight jacket. Purchased a small, even though could have gone for a smaller size if available, but if you add another layer underneath then ideal. Light and thin if you need to roll and out in a bag.
Service was excellent in the Birmingham store.

Rolls up very small, nice and lite.
Kept fairly heavy rain out and did not make me feel like I was in a sauna.

Pay for what you get!

The jacket is fantastic for keeping the water out, but I bought the small and it is still got flappy bits and too much fabric, isn't really an active cut just generic sizing. Good for people that fill out there sizes but not a weedy guy!

unfit for purpose
Reviewed By Alex, 30 Apr 2012

I have had this jacket for a while now and im afraid that quite frankly its appalling. The hyvent fabric has catastrophically failed in rain more severe then light spitting and it let a lot of water in alarmingly quickly. The rain doesn't bead at all anymore, even after treatment with TX products and other specialised proofers. The fabric isn't breathable at all, in fact it actually keeps the sweat in. The fleeced collar is wide cut and acts as a funnel allowing rain to freely flow down my neck and the hood is quite frankly flimsy. The fleece collar makes hiking in this jacket uncomfortable to say the least (although i personally 'run hot')

Brought this jacket for my husband who wanted a lightweight waterproof jacket that fits into a rucksack, this is ideal. Its been put to the test in the recent heavy downpours, the jacket being breathable is ideal for spring showers/storms

Great jacket to climb in
Reviewed By simon, 24 Mar 2012

I used this jacket to protect me from showers while rock climbing in the peak district. It was light so did'nt hinder my balance. But, flexable eough for some epic moves. Will definately keep it in my kit for next time.

Good for occassional use
Reviewed By Tristan, 26 Feb 2012

I work in the outdoors and trialed this jacket for one season. I used it everyday but found it did not hold up against heavy rain, but was good in light showers. Its breathability is not enough for you to be able to walk in it for extended periods. I would say it is good as a light weight jacket for occassional use against light showers which you'll not need to walk in for a long time.

I'm a postman and wanted a lightweight waterproof jacket, as the ones we're issued with are too heavy and leak. When new the Resolve performed OK, but I personally found that the breathability was very poor. My jacket is now 2yrs old and despite cleaning, I've found that the breathability is still poor and is totally useless in anything heavier than a light shower. My advice is to spend a few pounds more and buy a decent material.
