GORE-TEX is a waterproof, windproof and breathable fabric technology used in outdoor jackets and other gear.

Trail runners benefit greatly from wearing a lightweight GORE-TEX running jacket. The highly breathable membrane stops sweat building up during intense aerobic output. A running-specific fit prevents annoying fabric flapping in high winds.

GORE-TEX membranes are fully waterproof, as their pores are too small for water droplets to penetrate but large enough for sweat vapour to escape. However, the outer DWR coating may wear off over time and require reapplication.

You should clean your waterproof shell whenever dirt blocks the outer fabric. Washing your waterproof coat restores the original breathability of the membrane. Clean gear actively sheds heavy rain much faster than dirty outerwear.

Standard GORE-TEX suits everyday hiking and wet weather commuting. GORE-TEX Pro utilises a thicker face fabric to resist severe abrasion from sharp rock faces and heavy backpacks. This reinforced outer layer blocks the most extreme winter storms.
