Rab waterproof jackets use GORE-TEX, Pertex Shield or Rab's own Proflex fabric, each doing the same basic job in a different way: blocking rain and wind while letting sweat vapour escape so you don't end up wet from the inside instead. Proflex is the stretchiest of the three, built to move more like a softshell during scrambling or climbing.

Construction decides what each jacket suits. A 3-layer build gives the most protection for winter and alpine use. A 2.5-layer build packs down small and suits fast-moving days where weight matters more than raw toughness. A 2-layer build covers general hiking and everyday use well, without the cost of the more technical builds. Taped seams, YKK® AquaGuard® zips and adjustable hoods feature across the range, with some models built with a helmet-compatible hood for climbing and mountaineering.

Rab uses GORE-TEX membranes and Pertex Shield fabrics with fluorocarbon-free DWR coatings. These block external moisture while allowing sweat vapor to escape, maintaining breathability during high-intensity activities.

Rab jackets generally have room built in for a mid layer underneath, so if you'll mostly wear it over just a base layer or t-shirt, it's worth trying a size down rather than assuming your usual size.

Wash with technical cleaner after every trip; reproof every 3 months for frequent use. Tumble-dry on low heat to reactivate DWR coatings.

Many of the lighter, packable models pack into their own internal pocket rather than needing a separate stuff sack, so you can carry the jacket compressed without extra kit.
