The island is a backpacker’s paradise in that it is easily accessible, yet allows travellers to escape from the busy touristy areas to the beautiful and remote rice paddies. The walk is not particularly strenuous; however, you should be prepared to do a few steep climbs, which can be particularly tough in the heat of the midday sun, so make sure you take plenty of water.

If you are a hiking enthusiast, then this is a hike to add to the list. The Northern Drakensberg traverse is a five to six day trek that takes you along the magnificent Northern Drakensberg escarpment. Standing 3000m high, at the edge of the high plateau of Lesotho, this trek offers breath-taking views that stretch to the plains of the Kwazulu-Natal. The Northern Drakensberg Traverse, however, is not a trek for the faint hearted. If you decide to undertake this hike, you will not only need to be self-sufficient for the entire trek, you will also need to be prepared for tough terrain and challenging conditions.

There are no cars or paved roads on the small island of La Isla Del Sol, which means walking is the only way to get around. Grab an early morning boat and follow the rock-and-earth paths, working your way through the hillside settlements stretching from North -South of the island, meeting the locals and experiencing some spectacular and unique landscapes along the way.

As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Dolomites are well-known and loved by seasoned walkers. The area offers walkers a dramatic landscape of wildly eroded limestone cliffs, thick forests, and turquoise blue lakes. To the west of the main Dolomites, Brenta Dolomites are best known for the North-South traverse, and the East-West crossing. Walks in this area vary in terms of length and difficulty, from long distance treks, to a large selection of shorter day walks.
