Getting out for a walk on a cold day is one of our favourite things about winter; the lack of crowds and frosty landscapes make it the perfect relaxing escape. We’ve picked some of our favourite locations in the UK to visit on a chilly day, and the best walks to make the most of everything this season has to offer.

Tennyson Down, Isle of Wight

Bring your hats, scarves and layers and venture to the Isle of Wight’s rugged coastline. Take in views of the iconic Needles, as well as a 19th-century fort and the beloved Tennyson monument, on this challenging but very rewarding downland walk.

Blickling Estate, Norfolk

A relaxing, dog-friendly easy stroll around Blickling Estate’s lake, known for its majestic colours and frost-covered beauty on cold days. A cycle hire station offers the whole family a different way to experience the vast estate, and three cafés offer plenty of opportunities to warm up and refuel.

For a short and invigorating walk on a chilly day, look no further than one of Wales’ most beautiful beaches. Starting in the village of Rhossili, follow this easy trail along the coastline to the lookout point which offers stunning views of the serpent-shaped Worms Head.

The Weir Garden, Hereford

An unusual jewel, The Weir Garden takes on a different personality every season. In winter, a layer of dew covers the ground and branches until late morning and red-berried bushes line the paths along the river, while the stunning plumage of less common waterfowl becomes easier to spot through bare branches.
