works well ... for about 4 hours!
Reviewed By Jonathan, 17 Feb 2014

Not too impressed with this Nikwax product, it seems to waterproof leather for about 4 hours only and then the boots soak up water as per normal. This may be because I sometimes have to walk through bogs and there is always wet vegetation around so perhaps it rubs the wax off. This can't be the full reason though as surely the Nikwax is supposed to soak into the already wet boots when you apply it. I always made sure they dried off before wearing them again so I think I have been using it correctly. I've been using it continuously for about 4 months now, I wear the boots almost every day when I'm working (in a cold wet environment).

Whenever I applied it I always used my fingers and not the sponge applicator as you can never seem to get enough pressure using that. You would have to apply this waterproofer every day for it to have any effect but that isn't very practical. Good job that I bought a decent pair of leather boots (Scarpa SL Active).

Can't say I can feel any advantage by using this product although, bizarrely, I will probably keep on using it as there doesn't seem to be any alternative on the market any more i.e. normal wax, the old Nikwax one for example.

Ideal for re-waterproofing leather shoes after cleaning. Applied to wet shoes, which is a distinct advantage.

Good practical product

Most leather wax needs the boots to be dry which is not very practical on a wet walking holiday . Nikwax is ideal, just wash the mud off and treat the boots with the sponge applicator, no brushing or polishing involved Next morning away you go for another walk with dry feet,it's also quite small so no cleaning kit to carry
