A key item to add to your kit list

Fantastic quality fleece at a great price makes this a great value purchase to keep the chill out.

Add the Microchill as a key item to your kit list; whether you're skiing, walking in the hills or taking your dog out, the Microchill will be that much needed mid or base layer to keep you warm. The Microchill incorporates a high cut collar for when the thermometer drops, and a long front zip for venting options when the sun comes out to play. This lightweight fleece traps a lot of heat for your money. Wear it against the skin for sub-zero alpine starts in the Alps this summer, or over a thin base layer on cool days.

Decent Layer to Own
Reviewed By Tobias, 09 May 2015

It’s a brilliant layer to have, working well as either part of a layering system or as something to chuck on during an early Summer morning around camp or for an evening hike. I work with a 12? or half-zip front system which is great for venting on steep ascents without having to de-layer so that’s something I always look out for. Other features I like are the high-collar which is useful when the temperature drops and the strong inside-garment loop for hanging! It’s also an awesome top for rock climbing – with the great venting features coming into play again.

The only cons are that if you wear it a ton like I do then it does start to bobble and if you’re using it as part of a layering system – although it slips great over a baselayer if your next mid-layer is also some variation of fleece it starts to catch and doesn’t slide on that nicely.

Very good fleece
Reviewed By Dafydd, 09 Feb 2015

Very pleased with the one I bought in store (at the £25 sale price), wasn't familiar with Mountain Hardwear before but I like them now.

I have a few Craghoppers Corey III fleeces that I really like but they're possibly a little short - this fleece is a touch longer on the front and a good bit longer on my back. It's therefore comfier and warmer as it doesn't expose my belly or my back to the cold when moving/bending etc. I'm yet to use it on top of a hill, so it'll only get four stars for now (I've worn it at work and for watching rugby and it's done the trick very nicely). That said, I've just bought a second Microchill - first was red, the new one's black/v.dark grey.

Well worth getting, even at the full price !
Reviewed By James , 26 Mar 2014

A very good mid layer fleece, no pockets or full length zip to get in the way, just good quality and well cut.
Good detail is the top of the zip is protected from digging into your neck when pulled all the way up in cold weather, these are the sort of details that I appreciate and look for now.
Forget the price, get the good stuff.
MW products were recommended to me by a friend who gets through a lot of gear.
Azul is a bright blue so much better than the greys and khaki we seem to find everywhere.
I'll definitely get another one.

The Micro-chill by Mountain Hardwear is a great lightweight layer, that can pack down small enough to packed in a dry bag on long winter hikes and expeditions in the mountains as a brilliant back if you get soaked or just staying comfortable in the tent in the evening.
I always keep one of these in my pack especially when I'm leading groups in the hills, as it's a nice reliable warm layer and is so inexpensive and yet good quality compared to whats on the market at the moment.
It also makes a great base layer on really cold days.

One my favourite items of clothing, these tops travel around the world with me, it's very light packs into an incredibly small space and is warm, doesn't pile and is generously cut unlike some of the imitators. From the windy tops of Snowdonia where I live to a chilly Sahara night it's one of my must pack and most used items.

A lovely toastie fleece that is light enough to carry in a backpack if you need to strip off.

I bought this on Oct 20 half price from the London Piccadilly store whilst on the TUC March fighting against cuts and austerity.

The irony of parting with cash and buying a fleece at half price on such an iconic day was not lost on me.

It looks nice and is warm. It does what it is designed to. It also saves me from putting the heating on, so even more value-for-money!

Worth every penny.
