This is 21st century protection for feet, with a traditional leather upper. The premier model within Scarpa's ZG (Zero Gravity) series, the ZG10 has been designed to withstand Scottish bogtrotting, exploratory trekking in the Karakorum and the traverses of the Welsh 3000ers. Zero Gravity refers to Scarpa's impressive ability to engineer a huge amount of footwear performance into a surprisingly lightweight package. A chunky Vibram Hi-Trail sole provides sure-footed grip, the tough leather upper is reinforced with a high, thick rubber rand, and a Gore-Tex membrane guarantees breathable waterproof protection. Great value boot

Bought a pair 2 years ago and I have enjoyed them so much that when I saw the offer price I bought another pair! They are light, comfortable - after a slight amount of tightness - and give good support and traction. Have used them in the Atlas, Scotland and Australia and never had a blister from new. In recent years I have been going through boots in about 2 years - the joys of being retired - but their is still some life in the originals. Which brings me to my one gripe - a small part of the stitching on the uppers has broken and they need a small repair to stem water ingress. Once I've done this I would predict another 2 years of use.

Scarpa do it again.

First off, I should say that boot fit is specific to last. This review will be on performance, best go to store and get a professional foot analysis for what boot will suit your foot. Anyway, really supportive boot providing both torsional and leteral stiffness and ankle support. Good traction and durability from vibram sole. Protection from randing. Good waterproofing and easy treatment of nubuck provided dry feet. Good lacing system to provide support and fitting. Overall a really good boot light for the protection it offers. Used for 3 season use in mountains never let me down until I wore them into the ground after 5 years of constant use.

Excellent all-round boot

Have had mine for 18 months now and have found them very good on toughish terrain in Scotland and Wales, that did not merit my Mantas. I always waterproof my boots before wearing, so can't comment on out of box waterproofing, but I've had no leaks on very boggy ground. Found they took a while to break in (unusually for me with Scarpas) and think the width fit may be a bit tight due to the high rand. However all now well and the boots feel very secure. Recommend you get a fitting when buying.

Absolute revelation

Outstanding service at the store in Cotswolds Waterpark from Barry. I spent over an hour with him to get the perfect boots and these are it! From moment one of putting them on they fitted like a glove with support in all the right areas of the foot and not a single blister to date. They look heavy but are lightweight and tremendously sturdy. Dont let the price put you off, topclass boots for the money. Really reccommend going into store for a professional fitting.

Perfect boot for all baisc walking/trekking days

I would highly recommend these boots; they are perfect for hill days and trekking. The Gore- tex boot is very waterproof and all that needs to be done to keep it that way is to wax it every so often. The boot is rated B0 however it is quite a stiff boot and perhaps more on the B1 side. Only down sides are that if you wish to do some winter days they do not have crampon clips. The boot is very tough, I have had mine for 2 years or so and they are still in very good condition. These would be a great chose for Scottish weather and hills. Happy Shopping, hope this helps

Dissapointment

Just a quick review..My first ever walking boot was a Scarpa Attack !!! If i remember rightly and i remember them being brilliant in every way. The Ranger has disappointed in that i think the sole has worn down very fast and although iv done lots of walking in wales, lakes and scotland i just feel they have not lived up to my previous pair. I have now got a pair of Meindl cant remember the actual name , but the cotswold guy talked me in to them and iv been over the moon so far 6 months in.Not leather which i was a bit worried about.

2 years and two thousands miles

These boots are ready to straight from the box and only get better with age. The calf leather is not only comfortable but easy to maintain with the gore-tex lining keeping your feet dry and warm in some very poor conditions. These boots have been on every walk with me over the last two years and I am now only looking at replacing them with new pair. Outstanding.

Excellent pair of boots

I recently bought these boots from your Northumberland street store in Newcastle, these boots fit like a glove straight from the box, no break-in required, the staff were very helpful and well informed of each of the different products they stocked, I went for the ranger boots as they fit great and the price was a bargain at £90, if you are looking for some new boots at a reasonable price I would not hesitate to recommend you take a look at these boots, you will not be dissapointed.

Great Boot

I bought a pair of these a few months ago from Cotswolds. I usually avoid goretex linings as they can sweat my feet and love my Meindle Borneo Pros. However i bought these as a waterproof second pair and have no regrets. Comfy, excellent leather and no leaks. i can't fault them as all round walking boots. I've had scarpas before and cannot fault them. old established purveyor of quality boots.
Cons
Not the most aggressive sole so best for low level and trail walking. Not suitable for crampons.

Well worth a look

If you are looking for a great value leather boot, look no further. I've never bought a Scarpa boot before , but I am sure I've made the right choice at a very competitive price for me. The boots are well made, hopefully lasting for at least a couple, maybe more of Dartmoor walking years.
Following three short 'break in walks' just in case they were required, and they were not, I have now used the boots across open moorland, bogs and high Tors with much success, leaving my feet dry and blister free.
There are many more expensive boots on the market, and some even cheaper, but these Scarpa's appear to be all I require feet wise to allow me to walk in comfort during wet months walking across open country.
My normal size of 9 fitted well, but slightly on the tight side so I optied for the next size up and with good socks the boots fit really well leaving my toes with plenty of room and no rubbing.
As I have said, this brand is new to me, but up to now I feel I have made a sound purchase.

4 Years with the Scarpa Rangers

Have had a pair of these for around 4 years, walking a range of terrain in that time. Very happy with fit from the off and waterproofing shows no sign of failure. Always scrub up well. Sadly, we are now parting company. In the last year or so, 2 problems have emerged. Firstly, there is some mild splitting / tearing at a junction between the leather upper and the rand on the outside of my left foot. Probably just how I walk and doesn't impact useability - wouldn't be a reason for change any time soon. More critically however, I am increasingly feeling sufaces through the soles which have softened markedly in terms of "give" with wear - notwithstanding plenty of tread being left. Replacing the very thin insoles with Sorbothane insoles has made no difference. Pressure is at either side of the base of my toes and becomes most noticeable after a few miles walking. I wear good quality, purpose made socks so can only attribute this to the boot. I am a heavy walker so others may not experience this. All up this is now a bargain at circa £90 in part I think given a revised version is coming - the Ranger 2. Have personally just chosen a replacement pair of boots - Meindl Borneo Pro's (no Gore-Tex) - which also fit great out of he box but I have yet to give them an outdoor outing. I had hoped the Ranger's would have lived for longer so rating reflects my disappointment on the long term comfort issue only. Without this I could see these lasting for another couple of years and might have considered a resole given the uppers are generally sound and still bone dry inside.
